The Breeder is pleased to announce the inauguration of The Breeder Residency Program.

This four week artist-in-residence program offers international visual artists the opportunity to pursue their artistic disciplines while exploring and getting inspired by the city of Athens. The residency enables the production of a new body of work that will be exhibited at the end of the residency in the form of a solo presentation by the artist.

Stamatia Dimitrakopoulos, freelance curator and writer is in charge of programming of The Breeder Residency. Her role is to work closely with the artists, discussing their work as it develops, arranging studio visits with art professionals, curators, artists etc initiating creative dialogues and interactions.

The first resident is Ben Wolf Noam (b. 1987, Cambridge, MA). He is based in Los Angeles and is a graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA, 2009). His practice combines painting with the history of architecture, resulting in a nostalgic view of the future through the prism of the past. By constantly looking for connections and symbols that depict life in the cities, Ben Wolf Noam attempts to conjure a uniquely rendered perspective on contemporary culture. For the past decade he has been working to develop a process that is fully specific to the moment, while trying to push forward the historic language of image-making on canvas.

Ben Wolf Noam’s residency will conclude with a solo presentation of his work at Romantso Cultural Center in Athens.

Inaugural resident: Ben Wolf Noam
Residency curator: Stamatia Dimitrakopoulos
Residency dates: 27 June – 26 July 2015
